Another great book by this author. My son absolutely loves all of pippins adventures. I love that throughout the book there are great learning opportunities, and questions to ask at the end. A well written book with great illustrations.

Moving can be hard on animals. This story follows a poodle as they explore their new surroundings and realize they like their new home. I wonder how the humans will like knowing a possum chew a hole in their ceiling. Sequel? :D

Editorial Review

"Pippin Moves to the City" by Julia Seaborn and illustrated by Richard Hoit is the second book in the series, A Poodle Called Pippin. This cute and fun picture book will delight young readers with colorful and playful images and an entertaining storyline. Written for preschool and early elementary level children, the topic of moving is presented quickly and gently that preschoolers can understand and grasp.

Readers will see how making new friends, even when complex and uncomfortable, is a worthwhile adventure to take. Seaborn also lets kids know it is okay to miss your old friends while making new friends. With Richard Hoits rich and vibrant illustration, seals, foxes, possums, and butterflies are introduced to the story to help Pippin make friends and learn the value of caring for your neighbors.

In addition to being a creative and entertaining story, this children’s book provides multiple resources for teachers. This book could be used for a fun unit study covering various subjects and tying them together. A list of fun questions can be used for reading comprehension review, a maze for children to follow, and a list of facts on Possums that could be turned into a science lesson.

Pippin Moves to the City is a playful and charismatic picture book that is perfect for teachers, preschools, libraries, and parents.

A heartwarming, charmingly-illustrated story about a sweet poodle dog named Pippin who is not happy about having to leave all of his friends and move to a new house in the big city. His mother assures him that he will make new friends and that he can take along his toys and his bed. But Pippin doesn’t like that there are so many houses in the city. And what are those strange scratching and banging noises in the roof? Will Pippin meet some new animal friends and discover that moving to a new place isn’t so bad after all? Included at the back of this delightful story are lots of fun and educational follow-up activities. This book would be a great resource for parents and educators of children aged 4-7 years to teach them about friendship, courage, and adjusting to a new home.

Pippin the poodle returns for another adventure as the curious and fun-loving canine moves with his family to a new house in the city.
Pippin feels uncertain, anxious, and a little scared about moving. He’s also missing his friends as he watches boxes and furniture being loaded onto a moving truck. Pippin is grumpy and not happy about moving. Feeling sad about leaving his friends behind, Pippin meets a new friend in his new house. Her name is Blossom and she’s a possum. Pippin meets more new friends during a day at the beach.
Pippin gets into trouble while chasing a butterfly onto a big tree branch. But his new friends help him out. After a day of meeting new friends and exploring the sand dunes, Pippin decides he has found some nice, kind friends in the city. Maybe he'll like living there after all.
This is a beautiful children’s book that’s both warm and reassuring. It addresses some of the emotions children may encounter related to an impending or recent move and gently points out potential positives of a new home.
Young readers who fell in love with Pippin in the first book in the series, Pippin's Country Adventure, will be happy to reunite with the adventurous canine for Book 2. Indeed, Pippin Moves to the City is sure to charm young readers and those who love them.
This book includes some reading comprehension questions at the end to reinforce basic concepts. It also includes a fly home little butterfly maze and possum facts for children.

Such a cute little book. The illustrations are so good and vibrant. Pippen was so afraid he wouldn't find friends if he moved. But, it didn't take him long to find a whole bunch of them. Any little one loves books with animals. And there are activities to do at the end. Kudos to the author.

What I liked most about the story was the questions to the reader, which are reminiscent of the plot of the story. With friendly illustrations that are also suitable for the very young as a good night story. Highly recommended and pedagogically valuable.
